EDITORIAL: Laupahoehoe charter chaos dooms school

Reasonable people can quibble over elements in the campaign for a Laupahoehoe school charter as its advocates moved through the approvals obstacle course. They could argue about whether or not its financial plan was viable, whether or not proponents are proceeding correctly toward electing a school board. Some of the dispute may stem from a need for more clarity in the law underpinning the charter schools system.

Charter school with 100 percent college acceptance rate eyes Fort Worth

FORT WORTH -- A charter school system that boasts that 100 percent of its high school graduates are accepted into college announced Wednesday that it plans to open four schools in Fort Worth.

Uplift Education officials did not disclose the schools' locations but said efforts have been focused on southeast Fort Worth.

More charter schools are coming to Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Since North Carolina General Assembly lifted the cap on having just 100 charter schools in the state earlier this year, several have applied to get that status. 27 schools have sent in their applications.  Six are in the Charlotte area.

Corvian Community School is one of the 27.  It is a private school charging parents $400 a month in tuition.  If Corvian is approved as a charter school, it would eliminate the tuition and get money from the state for each child the school enrolls.

The rancor that has followed former City Councilwoman Eva Moskowitz's attempts to open charter schools across New York City is coming to a place that hasn't experienced it before: a middle-class neighborhood outside Manhattan.
