Teacher Licensing in Hawai'i

The Hawaii Teacher Standards Board issues three types of licenses and two types of permits: Click on the license link below or go to the Teacher Standards Board to learn more.

  •  A non-renewable Provisional License may be granted for no more than three (3) years to an applicant who meets the Provisional License requirements.  Read about the Provisional License to see if you qualify.
  •  A renewable Standard License may be granted for five (5) years to an applicant who meets the Standard License requirements.  Read  about the Standard License to see if you qualify.
  •  A renewable Advanced License may be granted for five (5) years to an applicant who meets the Advanced License requirements.  Read about the Advanced License to see if you qualify.
  • A Career and Technical Education (CTE) Limited Duty Special Permit may be granted for one year at a time for five (5) years to an applicant who meets the requirements. Read about the Career and Technical Education Limited Duty Special Permit to see if you qualify.
