Oahu
Job Description: 

We are looking for drivers that want an exciting opportunity working at a Hawaiian focused Public Charter School. Great opportunity to be a part of an ‘ohana based learning environment and assist in the growth for the future!

Requirements:

•             Minimum age – 21 years old

•             Must bring current driver’s license and a current traffic abstract (for 

type 3 licenses) or Hawaii Driver History (for CDL drivers) for interviews. 

Those without driving history in Hawaii must obtain records from their respective states/territories.

•             Must be flexible

•             Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Training

•             Prospective school bus drivers must undergo extensive training. This 

training includes safety protocols such as first aid and CPR, dealing with special-needs children, keeping order on a bus full of kids and maintaining tight schedules. In addition, drivers in training must learn the basic operations of a school bus, as well as more complicated maneuvers such as zigzag reversing and driving in narrow lanes.

DOT Medical Exam

•             A Department of Transportation (DOT) medical exam must be passed before 

you can become a school bus driver. The DOT exam is a basic physical. The doctor will check your physical capabilities, vision, hearing and overall medical condition. You must also pass an initial drug and alcohol test, and be subject to random testing thereafter.

Criminal and Background Check

•             The school will initiate a criminal history and background check before 

they hire someone to become a school bus driver. Due to the nature of the job, felons and sexual offenders are not eligible to drive school buses.

Kualapu’u School is a public conversion charter school for students in pre-kindergarten
through sixth grades. Teachers must meet Hawaii Teachers Standards Board licensure
and must be “highly qualified” under the federal No Child Left Behind requirements.
